Visit Beautiful Cape Cod This Summer

By Burt Carey

Just an hour from Boston, Cape Cod has been entertaining visitors for generations. It’s simply one of the most gorgeous stretches along the entire East Coast with plenty to capture your attention.

Cape Cod, fantastic food, must-visit destination, activities, 560 miles of pristine coastline, Cape Cod National Seashore, artOn the top of everyone’s list is food, and more specifically, seafood. Not to fear. Cape Cod has so many eateries ̶ ranging from fine dining to classic family-style restaurants ̶ you will leave with your belly so completely satisfied you’ll be talking about it for weeks after returning home.

Take, for example, the Beachcomber of Wellfleet. As the name implies, it’s on the waterfront. In fact, it’s at the beach – literally. The Beachcomber has been a must-visit summer destination for surfers, families, beach-goers and music lovers for more than 50 years. Each season, a steady stream of cars pulls into the parking lot, delivering beach bums of all ages for a memorable day in the dunes.

The live music, cool cocktails, fantastic food, stunning scenery and friendly atmosphere create an oasis in Wellfleet at Cahoon Hollow Beach. Whether you’re young or old, sun goddess or night owl – or anyone in between – you’ll be welcome here.

The Beachcomber opens from Memorial Day to Labor Day every year (since 1978).

For more than 25 years, the Lobster Boat Restaurant has been a local favorite, known for mouthwatering seafood dishes and excellent service. If someone in your party doesn’t like seafood, the menu here includes prime rib, steak, pasta and more, with a full bar to boot.

The Lobster Boat is a popular destination for families, business people, senior citizens and couples.

And then there’s Clancy’s of Dennisport. Your family will have a great time at Clancy’s Restaurant, where American fare is served in a casual family dining experience on the picturesque Swan River.

For 26 years, tourists and locals alike have enjoyed Clancy’s year-round tradition of serving fine food for lunch and dinner seven days a week. The family-friendly atmosphere and alternative menu options will ensure that everyone at your table leaves happy. Clancy’s menu covers the gamut of American foods, and features seafood (of course!), chicken and other options, with dinner entrees ranging in price from $17 to $34. They even offer vegetarian and gluten-free menus.

Cape Cod has so many activities going on you’ll have a hard time figuring out what not to do. For baseball buffs, the Cape is renowned for its Cape Cod Baseball League, where collegiate all-stars compete each summer, hoping for a roster spot in professional baseball. In fact, 183 CCBL alumni are now in the major leagues. Visitors can watch games for free at Little League-style ballparks throughout the area.

With 560 miles of pristine coastline, Cape Cod offers some of the finest beaches in the world, especially those along the Cape Cod National Seashore, a 40-mile stretch of unspoiled sandy beach in Outer Cape Cod. Cape Cod beaches are also known for being safe and family-friendly. Cape Cod’s constantly changing coastline has created new reasons to come and see this beautiful coastline.

One must-see beach destination is the Highland Lighthouse. The view from his 155-year-old landmark is stunning and memorable.

With hundreds of artists and galleries spanning the peninsula, Cape Cod is a great destination for art. Visit the many artist-studios and galleries to find work that reflects and honors the Cape’s storied artistic heritage (Provincetown is famously America’s oldest active art colony) alongside contemporary pieces that continue and re-envision this historic exploration in dynamic new ways.

And there’s plenty more, including whale/seal watching, kayaking, shopping, golf, kids activities, fishing, tours, bird watching, performing arts and film festivals.

You won’t be challenged finding a place to stay at the Cape. The Chatham community is a great central location, and the waterfront is difficult to pass up. The Cape has a bit of everything to satisfy every taste in accommodations, including rental homes, bed & breakfast operations, luxury resorts, hotels, motels and campgrounds.
